Candidates who meet the hiring requirements may be invited to a selection interview. The interview lets us get to know the candidate and determine how well the individual may fit the District and its expectations.
We are always interested in people who genuinely want to serve. Membership is more than saying you are on a fire department — it requires training, participation, teamwork and accountability.

Members are expected to participate in department training and activities, complete required education and certifications, maintain professional conduct, and respond when they are available. Our hiring process is designed to help both you and the department determine whether Schaeferville is the right fit.

Meet with the department selection board.
Employment, education, references, criminal and driving history review.
Final review and invitation to membership by the Fire Chief.
Training, certification, participation and evaluation.

The review may include employment and education history, criminal history, driving record and references. Applicants complete a Personal History Statement as part of this process.
New members train in firefighter fundamentals, safety and department requirements. CPR is required, and EMR or EMT certification may be required as a condition of continued membership.
